Future Leaders

“It’s crazy to see how much has changed in a year. Those 4 residential weekends quite literally changed my life! I can never thank you all enough for accepting me on board!”

Applications for Future Leaders 2022-23 are now closed.

Applications are now closed.

We’re very excited to meet some of the incredible creatives emerging around the UK soon!

We are proud to have 160 Future Leaders in our growing network since the programme began, and we look forward to meeting many more over the coming years.

Future Leaders is an innovative training programme in music, dance, and visual arts for emerging young artists aged 12-25.

Working with likeminded artists already in the industry, participants have the opportunity to further skills and subject knowledge, get stuck into practical tasks to challenge and inspire them, and gain a deeper understanding of the arts industry behind-the-scenes.

Successful applicants come from all over the UK, and undertake four residentials packed full of exciting Carnival arts workshops to explore further activities to develop in their home town. The course weekends are a lot of fun and everyone goes home having made new friends and creative contacts. Our residential activities and masterclasses take place in Oldham and Tameside in the North West of England.

A new wave of Future Leaders activity typically takes place every two years, and we have supported over 160 Future Leaders to date.

But the programme itself is not the end of the journey. In fact, it’s often only the beginning. We continue to mentor our Future Leaders, providing employment opportunities, either within our core team – our office manager and one of our producers are former Future Leaders, for example – or through our wider programme of activities. Many of our performers and workshop leaders have undertaken the programme training, and new arts projects and collaborations have arisen as a result of this growing and thriving network.

Accommodation costs, catering, and tuition are all covered within our programme so that funding is not a barrier for anyone wishing to take part*. Contributions towards course costs are welcomed and encouraged (more info in the following pages).

*All participants will have their tuition, accommodation and meal costs covered by the course. For travel, we have a very limited budget available to support those participants who need it most.
